Like the video text says, I’ve been trying to compile a list of solos that I would call ‘jazz essentials’: ones that utilize a lot of great language that are executed in a way that we can easily digest and use for ourselves. For me, this solo makes that list. Of course there are tons and tons out there, but I’m going to start properly cataloging those for myself (and sharing them too 🙂). Wilmington! My group, the Echromatics will have t Wilmington! My group, the Echromatics will have two shows this summer. In June, @jaykillmanmusic and I will be presenting duo renditions of our compositions and a couple of our favorite standards. The idea is that this will offer the intimate experience to hear how our tunes sounded as the original demos before a full brand brought them to life. We’ll be doing this at @sipcocopipa Afterwards, in July the full band will be playing these songs at @liveatteds . This will be the first time we’ve played the full band versions of our music in Wilmington, and likely the only time in 2025. I hope you’ll join us for one or both of these evenings, they’re going to be amazing. When you get really great work done on your instru When you get really great work done on your instrument, you really notice when your horn is anything less than great. Had to take a second to appreciate all the work that Jeff at MusicMedic has put into my alto sax over the last few years. I’m incredibly lucky to have such a high quality shop and technician just 15minutes drive from me here in Wilmington. And what’s better - with the NeoPads in this horn, it only took him less than half a single work day to have this turned around back in my hands. Jon, Jay, Brandon, Butler, thank you 🙏 Hearing the songs I wrote a year and a half ago, the way I heard them in my head, for the first time. No rehearsal time available, yet it still went extremely well. I really believe in my tunes, but hearing them performed by such high caliber musicians behind me in real time made me truly appreciate what I envisioned more than I could have imagined. I’ve put on three shows this year, and I’m thankful they happened in the order they did. Ending the run with my music has left me ready to dive into this offseason to create more for this group, and get it properly recorded to share with everyone. February 8th! We’ve been on hiatus, but I’m f February 8th! We’ve been on hiatus, but I’m finally bringing my band, the ‘Echromatics’ to Fayetteville at the @theairbornecigaremporium . On top of that, it’s the first quintet gig I’ve ever done.
