Just got back from an extended trip to Toronto to Just got back from an extended trip to Toronto to visit my bro @tink_musik ! It was my first time getting to visit in the summer since he moved there. I was also motivated to make the trip to celebrate the fact that he and his partner Tara got engaged 🙌 love yall so much! It allowed the chance to finally meet more of the music scene he’s a part of (and still didn’t meet all of them 😅 next time!). Every single one of them are so dedicated the their craft, and were great people to spend time with as well. If we met and you see this, I can’t wait to come back up and play with you again! Toronto really feels like a secondary home to me at this point. I didn’t capture everything, but feel free to scroll through to enjoy some photos and videos of the scenery/music/myself and Cam playing in various settings. Taking a break from mixing my album to play tenor sax in a super fun horn section alongside my friends in @tumbaoband . You can find tickets for necessary shows via their website. Let me know if you’ll be around - I’d love to connect while we’re in the area! As for my album, I’m just over halfway finished with the mixes. Once I get back home, the remaining songs should quickly follow, followed by mastering and then an update will follow regarding release dates, upcoming shows, etc. Exciting rest of the year ahead!
Tough birthday month to beat. 😅 One of the best p Tough birthday month to beat. 😅 One of the best parts (though there are many) about music is getting to sometimes travel to play. Explore the world while sharing with the world. It gets even better when you’re playing with friends, and even better still when your life partner can join you 🙂 we just played a wedding in Crete, Greece and then had the week to explore. I can’t come close to pinpointing the best part of this trip. Everything we did in Athens was on a whim though, and turned out amazing. In the last 30 days, I’ve gotten to: - See Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic, and Leon Thomas - Go to Arkansas, and play music & sauna - Turn 33, reject work and have date night 🙂 - See Earth, Wind & Fire (from workside) - Travel to Greece Next up! 3 private events this week, followed by a little sleep.
Recording is finished! Some of these songs were w Recording is finished! Some of these songs were written 3 years ago; one of them written almost 3 weeks ago. I think they all capture the same snapshot of what I want to bring as an artist. I’ve been a part of several records and studio sessions, but being a lead for a live session is a whole different experience. I’m excited to check these out in a couple weeks so I can get started on the next steps to getting these out to the world. From our show in July at @liveatteds I’ve taken From our show in July at @liveatteds I’ve taken forever to listen to this performance, because I held so much weight on myself for how this show went leading up to it. There’s a lot of beautiful moments that were recorded. There’s some things that didn’t go as well as I thought, too. But overall, I’m glad I waited to listen for nearly two months. I’m excited to share more snippets of this show, and to hopefully get this project off the ground again shortly! I listen to so much Braxton Cook, and I wanted to share this clip first because I felt that it’s so glaringly obvious in how I start this solo 😂. But I appreciate the kind of pensive approach that was used here, and it really resonates with some of my current goals for myself, so I think it’s important to begin this series of clips with something that celebrates clear progress for me. I was about one week into trying my new mouthpiece from @theowanne , the hard rubber Brahma. I hadn’t fully grasped control of it yet, but man the flexibility and expressiveness of it is exactly in line with my tonal goals. Shoutout to them for continually improving what they bring to the table for musicians! So many things to say! First, I’m thankful to hav So many things to say! First, I’m thankful to have to have sold out two shows in a row here; this time, performing my own music. So thank you everyone that came out. The energy in the room was incredible and really puts into perspective why I do this. No other career path provides this feeling🙏 I really think something unique took place in this room that will be incredibly difficult to reproduce and it was so necessary for me that it did. What an electric night. Second, thanks to this amazing group of people with me who bring my music to life. I often question my musical/composition decisions from my demos but somehow they interpret what I send them into something really exciting. Third, I wish there was a venue like @liveatteds in more cities. What this space offers for the artists and audience is so important, especially for indie/startup artists. To be transparent, I came into Saturday prepared to take a break from playing for awhile. I’d been discouraged with myself, feeling stagnant. After playing the show, I’m still going to take a couple weeks off; but it revitalized me, and reminded me, as someone recently told me: I need to “keep making good music.” For some reason, the person that told me that had a strong affect the last week or so and I think about it often when I’m discouraged. Like I said, I’m taking a little break, and I have a plan for the music we performed Saturday, but I’ll be using these couple weeks to decide what’s next. Thanks if you read this far ❤️
